Search Engine Optimization Tips For Today's Internet

There was a time when search engine optimization (SEO) was a bit easier than it is today. A website owner or professional SEO (search engine optimizer) could simply add the right words to a page, get some links from other websites, and watch rankings soar. These days, increased competition and smarter search engine algorithms have made many website owners and SEOs rethink their strategy.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

A website still needs to have some relevant content on its page. It still should have some high quality references and links on other websites. It is just really important to keep these very natural so major search engines do not think they have crossed the line into SPAM.

Once a website is considered "spammy," it is worse than having fewer keywords or links. It can even cause a penalty that will be very difficult to recover from. This means that bad SEO techniques can be far more dangerous than practicing none at all.

That is what the biggest search engines really want. They want authority sites to rise naturally in the search engines results (SERPs) because they are relevant and high quality resources. They do not want sites to rise in the ranks because they have been unnaturally engineered to game the search engines.

Of course, SEO still means making a site relevant to its topic. If you plan to sell real estate in Dallas, you should include some content around real estate in Dallas. You might include articles, pictures, and videos on this topic. You should not, however, simply mention this key phrase on your site dozens of times for no good reason.

If you do this right, in time you will find many visitors trickling in for your information about homes, commercial properties, or lots in the Dallas area. Maybe you will mention suburbs like Garland and Plano too. Today's search engines understand the relevance of your keyword and related terms.

Links still matter in search engine optimization. A few links form high quality sites will do more for you in the long run than thousands of links from bogus or low quality pages these days.

Also, even though your fondest wish is to be found when Internet searchers look for "real estate in Dallas," be very wary about having too many links to your site with that key phrase. Instead, include some related phrases like "houses in Richardson" and even some links that just have your site's URL.

It is a lot easier to link with different phrases and improve your overall website's position if you do not just concentrate on linking to your home page. Make sure you find and encourage good links to your inner pages too. This looks more natural because inner pages may actually contain the relevant information that a surfer is looking for.

Is This All There Is To Search Engine Optimization?

Actually, a good SEO is constantly learning. This has just touched the surface of the basics. But be sure and practice safe SEO and avoid bad practices if you really care about your website's rankings in the future.
